Northwestern Mutual Makes 5-Year Commitment of $50,000 to University of Louisville to Establish Diversity Scholarship
Northwestern Mutual Financial NetworkLouisville and the Northwestern Mutual Foundation have together committed a total of $50,000 to fund one $5,000 scholarship per semester for an outstanding African American, Hispanic, Asian, or Native American junior or senior majoring in the College of Business at the University of Louisville.
Scholarship recipients will gain exposure to financial services and learn business concepts that are applicable in any field through interaction with a financial professional with The Northwestern Mutual Financial Network.
Eligibility Requirements
Who: African-American, Hispanic, Asian, Native American applicants entering their junior or senior year with a major in the University of Louisville’s College of Business.
When: Applications for the Spring semester of 2009 must be postmarked by October 24.
Selection: Scholarship recipients will be notified in early December with funds available in early January, 2009.

Preparing the Next Generation for Volunteer Leadership
NeXt! is a prestigious leadership development program sponsored by the Fund for the Arts for young professionals from some of Louisville’s most prominent businesses. The goal is to prepare the next generation for volunteer leadership roles in the area of arts and cultural interests with a strategic focus on strong corporate citizenship. Participants make a two-year commitment to the program.

Northwestern Mutual Financial Network - Louisville Helped Junior Achievement through Online Auction Sponsorship
Serving as a Regional Board Member for the Kentuckiana local Junior Achievement chapter, Dan Rivers was pleased that Northwestern Mutual Financial Network - Louisville recently sponsored the Junior Achievement online auction. Proceeds from the auction benefitted Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana to help support more than 40,000 students in Kentucky and Southern Indiana.

For the second year in a row, Northwestern Mutual Financial NetworkLouisville was proud to sponsor a seminar, with partner Greater Louisville, Inc., featuring Steven S. Little. The seminar took place at the Galt House on Tuesday, Oct. 30.
Ralph Barringer named Louisville Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's 2007 Man of the Year
Nominated to participate in this year’s fundraising event, Ralph accepted on behalf of a high school and college friend who died from cancer in his early 20s. In accepting the honor, Ralph stated he was "very thankful for the support that individuals gave to the campaign,” spearheaded by wife, Kay and good friend Colin Underwill. “I am humbled that, as a group, we raised over $132,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society."

Dan Rivers and the members of Northwestern Mutual Financial NetworkLouisville were honored to sponsor the event, A Breakfast with Steve Forbes, held at Churchill Downs in Louisville on April 3, 2007.

Good Wine for a Good Cause
Northwestern Mutual Financial NetworkLouisville was proud to sponsor Louisville Uncorked's winter tasting event. Louisville Uncorked is a wine tasting like no other. It combines wonderful wine with great competition and all for a good cause. Every quarter Louisville Uncorked participants get together to compete for a pot of wine and to raise a bunch of money for select charities. 400 people attended the winter event which raised over $5,000.00 and benefited Louisville Historic Homes Foundation. Reaching Out to Our CommunityCommunity Service Award Winners
Dan Rivers is proud of the accomplishments of the Financial Representatives of his Northwestern Mutual Financial Network – Louisville Office. Four of them have won at least one National Community Service Award. This award honors those whose dedication to helping local organizations has significantly enriched their communities. Since the award’s inception in 1995 by Northwestern Mutual, more than 200 non-profit organizations nationally have collectively received nearly $2.2 million on behalf of award winners. Dan Rivers personally applauds the members of his team who were so honored, along with the extraordinary organizations that these individuals have helped:
Mitchell Barnes received the Most Exceptional Volunteer Award in 2007 for his service on behalf of The DREAM Foundation in Louisville, along with a previous Community Service Award for his assistance in the Duchenne Research Education and Miracle (DREAM) Foundation, in 2003.

Ralph Barringer was the distinguished recipient of the award, in both 1996 and 2002, for helping the Louisville Deaf Oral School. Robert Steiner, Jr. was honored in 1998 and 2004 with the award for his contributions to Bridgepointe Goodwill Industries and the Easter Seal Society. Patricia Vanaman provided service to Growing Together Preschool, for which she received the award in 1999. Many other Financial Representatives affiliated with this Network Office have contributed to their respective communities in exceptional ways. Dan Rivers applauds them all for their efforts to make a difference in important ways. |
